Strawberry Meringue Cake Recipe

Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 9-inch round cake-pans.
Beat egg whites (at room temperature) and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
Gradually add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form.
Spread meringue over batter.
Bake at 350Â° for 35 minutes.
Cool in pans 10 minutes.
Remove and cool, meringue side up, on wire racks.
Combine 1/2 cup strawberries and 2 tablespoons sugar in a mixing bowl, mash well.
Add whipping cream, beat until soft peaks form.
Place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread half of whipped cream mixture over cake layer.
Arrange half of remaining sliced strawberries on top, and top with second cake layer.
Repeat layer of whipped cream mixture and strawberries.
Cover and chill.
