Recipe Story

There is not much of a story behind this recipe, except the fact that I was really hungry yesterday and that I was craving for the pungency of the fish sauce. It is a very easy recipe and it can be made as often as possible. Besides, squid is a good source of protein.

Ingredients

Squid – 400 grams, cut into rings
 Onions – 2 small, sliced
Green Chili – 1 large, seeded, sliced into lengthwise strips
Dried Holy Basil leaves – 1 teaspoon
Spring Onions – 6, cut into short lengths
 Fish sauce2 Tablespoon
 Sugar1 Teaspoon
 Ground black pepper1 To taste
 Sunflower oil3 Tablespoon

Directions

MAKING
1. Heat a wok. Add oil. When hot add onions and sauté till they being to wilt.
2. Add the green chili, and dried basil. Stir for a minute longer.
3. Add the squid and cook for about 5 minutes.
4. Add the spring onions, fish sauce, pepper and sugar. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes longer.

SERVING
5. Remove and serve hot with steamed jasmine rice.

Squids dont have the typical seafood smell and neither have a strong flavor, they can easily pass off as a veg food item.
