Steamed Fruit Dumplings Recipe

Ingredients

 
2 cupful flour
 
1/2 teaspoonful salt
 
4 teaspoonful baking powder
 
1/8 cupful shortening
 
8 teaspoonful sugar
 
1/2 - 3/4 cupful milk
 
8 tablespoonful water
 
2 cupfuls fruit (berries, apples, cherries, canned fruit, drained, etc.)

Directions

Sift flour, baking-powder and salt together.
Cut in the shortening.
Add milk gradually to make a dough as stiff as for baking-powder biscuits.
Divide fruit into 8 greased molds, and add 1 tsp. sugar and 1 tbsp. of water to each, or omit sugar and use juice of canned fruit.
Place a piece of dough on top of the fruit.
Steam 45 min.
Serve with Lemon Sauce.
