Ingredients
1 cup (250 ml) uncooked rice
1 lb (450 g) round steak, minced
3 green onions, finely chopped
1 tsp (5 ml) finely chopped fresh ginger
2 water chestnuts, finely chopped
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tbsp (15 ml) soy sauce
3 tbsp (45 ml) sherry
Green vegetable leaves
Soy sauce and chili pepper sauce, to serve
Directions
1 Place rice in a bowl, cover with water and soak for 1-1 1/2 hours. Drain well and spread out on a tray to dry.
2 Combine steak, green onions, ginger, water chestnuts, egg, soy sauce and sherry; mix until well blended. Form mixture into balls about 1 1/2 inches (4 cm) in diameter.
3 Roll each ball in rice until completely covered. Place balls on green vegetables in a steamer basket, leaving enough space between so they don't touch each other.
4 Place in a steamer and steam for 30 minutes over gently boiling water.
