Split Pea And Ham Soup Recipe
The split pea soup is a light and flavorful soup made with split peas and ham bones. Cooked with carrots and onions, the split pea soup is flavored with red salt and bacon and served with chopped eggs on top.
Ingredients
1 lb. split peas
1 Ige. nam bone
3 qt. water
1 white onion
1/2 carrot, diced
Salt, red and white
Pepper to taste
6 slices bacon (opt.)
2 hard cooked eggs(opt.)
Directions
Place split peas and ham bone in cold water; let come to a rapid boil.
Turn heat to low; add onion, carrots and seasonings.
Cook slowly for 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Remove ham; put soup through strainer.
Replace ham bits in soup, discarding bone and fat.
To serve, add 1 tablespoon crumbled bacon and some chopped egg to each serving.
