Ingredients

 Water10 Cup (16 tbs)
 2 cups dried yellow or green split peas, rinsed
 3/4 pound smoked ham, cubed, or 1 meaty cooked ham bone
 Onions2 , minced
 Carrots2 Large, sliced
 Bay leaves2 Large
 Dried thyme1/2 Teaspoon
 Dried marjoram1/2 Teaspoon
 Salt and white pepper, to taste

Directions

MAKING
1. In a large pot or soup pot, add peas and water and stir well. Mix in bone or ham pieces, carrots, onions, marjoram, thyme, pepper, bay leaves and salt and bring mixture to a boil.
2. Lower the heat to minimum, cover and allow to simmer to 2 to 2.5 hours. Adjust seasonings, of desired.
3. Remove bone, if ham bone is used and cut the meat into chunks and add to soup again. Discard bay leaves.
4. For a creamier soup, make three batches of prepare soup, pass each batch through a food processor with steel blade or blender to prepare a puree, transfer to a clean pot and heat till serving temperature.

SERVING
5. Serve hot in soup bowls.
