Split Pea Soup With Ham Recipe
Ingredients
| Water | 10 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 2 cups dried yellow or green split peas, rinsed | ||
| 3/4 pound smoked ham, cubed, or 1 meaty cooked ham bone | ||
| Onions | 2 , minced | |
| Carrots | 2 Large, sliced | |
| Bay leaves | 2 Large | |
| Dried thyme | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Dried marjoram | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Salt and white pepper, to taste | ||
Directions
MAKING
1. In a large pot or soup pot, add peas and water and stir well. Mix in bone or ham pieces, carrots, onions, marjoram, thyme, pepper, bay leaves and salt and bring mixture to a boil.
2. Lower the heat to minimum, cover and allow to simmer to 2 to 2.5 hours. Adjust seasonings, of desired.
3. Remove bone, if ham bone is used and cut the meat into chunks and add to soup again. Discard bay leaves.
4. For a creamier soup, make three batches of prepare soup, pass each batch through a food processor with steel blade or blender to prepare a puree, transfer to a clean pot and heat till serving temperature.
SERVING
5. Serve hot in soup bowls.
