Spicy Spinach Balls Recipe
This Spicy Spinach Balls recipe will entice any eater fussy or easy. If your diet is full of Low Fat recipes then also include Spicy Spinach Balls in it. Poultry is one of the few ingredients I like to include in my daily cooking and this is my comfort recipe that I usually prepare using it. Spicy Spinach Balls served as Main Dish is the best food to pep me up. You do not need to be a gourmet to gauge how delicious and flavorful this dish is.
Ingredients
SPINACH BALLS
8 ounces ground turkey breast or 96% lean ground beef
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon whole fennel seeds
1 teaspoon crushed fresh garlic
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
1 package (10 ounces) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
1 1/2 cups cooked brown rice or bulgur wheat
3/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/3 cup grated nonfat or reduced-fat Parmesan cheese
2 egg whites
SAUCE
1 1/2 cups fat-free marinara sauce
Directions
1. Combine the ground turkey or beef and the herbs and spices in a medium-sized bowl, and mix thoroughly. Set aside for 15 minutes. Add the remaining spinach ball ingredients, and mix well.
2. Coat a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Shape the spinach mixture into 32 (1-inch) balls, and place them on the baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for about 25 minutes, or until browned.
3. Place the marinara sauce in a small saucepan, and simmer over medium-low heat just until hot. Transfer the sauce to a small bowl.
