Spicy Marble Coffee Cake Recipe
Ingredients
| Shortening | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Granulated Sugar | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Egg | 1 | |
| Enriched flour | 2 Cup (16 tbs), sifted | |
| Baking powder | 2 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Milk | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 2 tablespoons light molasses | ||
| Cinnamon | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Nutmeg | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Cloves | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Brown sugar | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Walnuts | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
| 2 tablespoons enriched flour | ||
| Melted butter | 2 Tablespoon | |
Directions
Cream shortening and granulated sugar.
Add egg; beat well.
Sift together 2 cups flour, the baking powder, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating after each addition.
Divide batter in 2 parts.
To one part, add molasses and spices.
Spoon batters alternately into greased 9x9x2-inch pan; zigzag spatula through.
Mix remaining ingredients for topping; sprinkle over batter in pan.
Bake coffeecake in moderate oven (350°) 30 minutes, or till done.
Cut in 9 squares and serve warm with butter.
