|Flaked coconut||1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped|

Stir butter to soften, then beat in corn syrup and sugar until well mixed.
Add egg; beat until thoroughly mixed.
Mix in vanilla extract and nuts or coconut, then dry ingredients.
Chill dough about 1 hour.
Shape into 2 rolls, about 2 inches thick.
Wrap in waxed paper and chill at least 4 hours.
Cut into 1/8 -inch slices with sharp knife.
Place on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly browned.
