Spanish Apple Slices Recipe
Ingredients
| All purpose flour | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Butter | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Sugar | 1/3 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Egg | 1 | |
| Few drops vanilla extract | ||
| 2 lb cooking apples | ||
| 1 tablespoon dried peppermint leaves | ||
| Cinnamon | 2 Teaspoon | |
| Pinch ground cardamom | ||
| Raisins | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Egg yolk | 1 , beaten | |
Directions
Sift the flour on to a working surface and make a well in the center.
Add the butter in small pieces with the sugar, egg and vanilla extract.
Mix well together with one hand to form a soft pastry dough.
Chill for 20 minutes.
Peel, core and thinly slice the apples.
Mix with the peppermint, cinnamon, cardamom and raisins.
Set aside one-third of the pastry.
Roll out the remainder on a floured surface and use to line a well-greased 8-inch square cake pan.
Fill with the apple mixture.
Roll out the remaining pastry to cover.
Press the edges together to seal and prick all over.
Brush with the egg yolk.
Bake in a hot oven (425° F) for 45 minutes, until golden.
Cool slightly, then remove carefully from the pan.
Serve warm.
