1/4 lb (125 g) bacon, chopped
 
1 onion, chopped
 
1 clove garlic, crushed
 
1/2 stalk celery, chopped
 
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
 
1/4 cup (62.5 ml) olive oil
 
1 1/2 lb (750 g) peas, shelled
 
1/2 cup (125 ml) beef stock
 
1 tomato, peeled and chopped
 
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil or 1 teaspoon ground basil
 
salt and pepper
 
1 lb (500 g) spaghetti
 
1 tablespoon (20 g) butter or margarine grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Mix together the bacon, onion, garlic, celery and parsley and saute in the olive oil for about five minutes.
Add peas and beef stock and cook, covered, until peas are tender.
Stir occasionally.
Add tomatoes, basil and salt and pepper to taste.
Cook for five minutes.
Cook spaghetti in boiling salted water until just tender.
Drain.
Stir in one tablespoon of butter or margarine.
Pour the vegetable sauce over the spaghetti and toss thoroughly.
Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
