Spaghetti Bolognaise Recipe

Ingredients
2 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
2 oz butter or margarine
2 slices bacon chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 carrot, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
8 oz finely ground beef
1 1/4 cups beef stock or water and beef bouillon cube
5 tablespoons tomato paste
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup red wine
8-12 oz spaghetti
Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Directions
Heat oil and butter in a heavy pan and gently saute bacon, onion, carrot and garlic for 5 minutes.
Add beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until it turns brown (about 10 minutes).
Add stock, tomato paste, bay leaf, salt and pepper and bring to the boil stirring frequently.
Reduce heat and simmer covered for 1 hour.
Stir in wine and season to taste if necessary.
Boil spaghetti in a large pan of boiling, salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Drain well, return to pan with a tablespoon of olive oil and shake over heat until all strands of spaghetti are separated and coated with oil.
