Spaetzle Baked with Ham Recipe
Ingredients
| Butter | 4 Tablespoon | |
| 1 medium-sized onion, chopped 6 medium-sized fresh, white mushrooms, sliced | ||
| Sherry | 2 Tablespoon | |
| 1 recipe of spaetzle, cooked and drained | ||
| 8 thin slices of Westphalian, pro- sciutto, or a good boiled ham, cut into 2-inch squares | ||
| 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs, mixed with | ||
| Melted butter | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Salt | To Taste | |
| Pepper | To Taste | |
Directions
In a frypan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.
Add the onion and cook until soft.
Add the remaining butter and the mushrooms and cook for 2 minutes.
Stir in the sherry, and season with salt and pepper.
In a buttered baking dish, arrange a layer of spaetzle, and spoon over it one-half of the mushrooms and onion mixture.
Arrange the ham squares over the mushrooms and onions, and layer with the remaining spaetzle; spoon the remaining mushroom and onion mixture over that.
Sprinkle the dish with the buttered breadcrumbs and place it in a preheated 400-degree oven for 30 minutes, or until heated through and the crumbs are brown.
