Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour 500 mL
4 tsp baking powder 20 mL
1/2 tsp salt 2 mL
1/2 cup butter 125 mL
1 cup milk or light cream 225 mL
2 tbsp milk 25 mL
1 tsp cornmeal 5 mL
Directions
In bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt.
With pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add 1 cup (225 mL) milk, stirring with fork to make soft, slightly sticky dough.
Form into ball; knead gently on lightly floured surface about 10 times.
Roll dough into circle about 1/2 inch (1 cm) thick.
Cut with floured 2 inch (5 cm) cutter.
Place on ungreased baking sheet.
Brush each biscuit lightly with 2 tbsp (25 mL) milk; sprinkle with cornmeal.
Bake in 400°F (200°C) oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
