Southern Spoonbread Recipe
Southern Spoonbread are small sized bread using served along with appetizers. Southern Spoonbread gets its taste from cornmeal mixed with milk and eggs.
Ingredients
2 cups milk
1 cup water
1 cup yellow cornmeal
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
Directions
Combine first 5 ingredients; cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat.
Eat eggs at medium speed of an electric mixer until thick and lemon colored.
Gradually stir about one fourth of hot mixture into eggs; add to remaining hot mixture, stirring constantly.
Pour into a lightly greased 1 1/2 quart casserole.
Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean.
