 1/4 cup butter, margarine or shortening
 Sugar1 Cup (16 tbs)

 Boiling water1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Cake flour1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), sifted
 Baking powder1 1/2 Teaspoon
 Baking soda1 Teaspoon
 Salt1/2 Teaspoon
 Sour milk1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Vanilla1 Teaspoon
 Seven Minute Frosting

Directions

1. Start oven, set at Moderate, 350° F. Rub 2 9-inch layer pans with margarine or shortening.
2. Beat the butter, margarine or shortening until light; gradually add the sugar and beat until creamy. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, and beat thoroughly after each addition.
3. Break the chocolate in small pieces and pour the boiling water over it; stir until melted; let cool slightly. Add the chocolate to the creamed mixture and mix well.
4. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the sour milk, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
5. Pour the batter into the pans. Bake about 25 minutes. Let the layers cool thoroughly and then frost.
