Ingredients

 
4 Cups Flour
 
1 1/2 Tsp. Salt
 
1 Tsp. Baking Powder
 
1 Tbs. Granulated Sugar
 
1 Tbs. Shortening
 
1 Cake Yeast, or 1 Pkg. Dry Yeast
 
1/4 Cup Warm Water
 
1 1/4 Cups Scalded Milk

Directions

Combine the dry ingredients and cut in shortening.
Dissolve yeast in warm water.
Add to scalded milk that is cooled to room temperature.
Make a well in center of dry ingredients.
Pour liquid into well and work into dry ingredients to make dough.
Knead dough 15 to 20 times and set aside for approximately 10 minutes.
Roll dough to 1/4" thickness or slightly thinner, then cut into squares or triangles and fry in melted shortening at 420 degrees F.
Fry only a few at a time so fat stays hot.
Drain sopaipillas on absorbent towels and serve as a bread.
