Soft Molasses Cookies Recipe

Ingredients
Shortening - 1 cup
Molasses - 1 1/2 cups
Sugar - 1/4 cup
Sifted flour - 4 cups
Salt - 1 1/2 teaspoons
Soda - 2 teaspoons
Cinnamon - 2 teaspoons
Ginger - 1 1/2 teaspoons
Cloves - 1/2 teaspoon
Egg - 1
Directions
GETTING READY
1) Preheat oven at 400° F.
MAKING
2) In a saucepan, heat shortening.
3) Add in the molasses and sugar and cool.
4) Combine and sift the flour, salt, soda, cinnamon, ginger and cloves.
5) Add a little of the flour into the shortening mix.
6) Beat in the egg.
7) Add in the remaining flour and blend till a smooth dough.
8) Refrigerate for about 2 hours.
9) Shape into lVi-inch balls.
10) Arrange on baking sheets, placing about 2 inches apart.
11) Place in the oven at 350° F and bake for about 15 minutes.
12) Remove to wire racks.
13) While still warm, spread half the cookies with confectioners' sugar icing.

14) Add more confectioners' sugar icing and serve.
