Ingredients
2-8oz cans tomato sauce
2c-water
4-cloves garlic minced/crushed
2tbsp-apple cider vinager
1/4 small onion brunois or (diced finely)
1 1/4c-brown sugar
(if you like it sweeter add a handful at a time extra)
1/2tbsp-black pepper (ground)
1tbsp-pure honey
1/2tbsp-worcestershire
1tbsp-liquid smoke (apple flavor)
or if you like hickory or mesquite you can use that instead.
1/4tsp-ground coriander
1tbsp-red wine vinagar
1tbsp-thickining agent such as file' powder, flour, or corn starch.
i like using file' powder because it is made out of ground sasafras and it adds a great flavor to the sauce.
Directions
in a 2 to 4 qt sauce pan start with the 2 cups of water and the tomato sauce, bring mixture to a boil. boil for 2 minutes, reduce heat to low until slightly simmereing and leave the heat setting to med low or low.
start adding the rest of the ingredients as listed stirring constantly, i would use a wooden spoon or whisk. once you have reached the end of the ingredient list and everything is mixed well and slow dancing with each other :) continue to simmer for 2 to three hours or until contents have reduced by one half, or the mixture has reached your desired thickness.
serve hot, or store in the fridge.
this will make about 16oz of sauce, this should keep in the fridge for at least 2 weeks.
Enjoy
