Shoo-Fly Cake Recipe
Thanks to my neighbor for sharing this excellent Shoo-fly Cake recipe. A delicious Dessert, the Shoo-fly Cake completes your meal. Was it you or the fragrance of Shoo-fly Cake that you are cooking that has dragged me to the kitchen?, were my husband's words.
Ingredients
4 cups flour
2 cups packed light brown sugar
1 cup shortening
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 (16 ounce) bottle light molasses
1 tablespoon baking soda
2 cups boiling water
Directions
Combine the flour and brown sugar in a bowl.
Cut in the shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Reserve 1 cup of the crumbs.
Stir in the cinnamon and molasses.
Dissolve baking soda in 1/4 cup boiling water.
Stir the remaining boiling water into the molasses mixture gradually.
Stir in the baking soda mixture.
Pour into a greased 9x13 inch cake pan.
Sprinkle with the reserved crumbs.
Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.
