Sometimes a small change in a recipe makes a big difference, like this venison shepherd's pie. By using venison it has become not only light as compared to the traditional one but also tastes different. Take a look at the video for the quick steps and cook up this traditional dish with a twist to surprise your loved ones. They would love the combination of new flavors.Comments

WHY WOULD YOU PUBLICIZE COOKING WITH AN ANIMAL WAY TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT? VERY VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. CAN'T BELIEVE HOW GROSS ANYONE COULD BE, LET ALONE PUBLICIZE IT!!! PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR ACTIONS AND LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES. NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE FOOD COULD BE I'D NEVER EVER EAT ANYTHING YOU COOKED, SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU DON'T DEMONSTRATE GOOD JUDGEMENT AND CLEANLINESS. HOW MUCH OF THE CAT HAIR IS NEEDED FOR THE RECIPE? LOL ALL JOKES ASIDE (100% POOR JUDGEMENT)

Hi Sandee!
I LOVE COOKING (not good at it though).
I've just joined this site because I can't believe how many nasty comments you received!
I LOVE CATS (have 2 myself!). Don't take offence to negative comments about your gorgeous cat ~ Your recipe is GREAT & my family have just finished eating.... seconds! No leftovers here tonight!!
We are here because of cooking & recipes ~ If others don't like your cat on the bench, then that's there problem.
What a sad life they must have if that's all there complaining about!
All the best & LOVED this meal!

Hi Lovetocookalot, I made the Shepards Pie this weekend. It was awesome and very easy to make. The venison is a wonderful substitute for the hamburger. Thanks for sharing.
Happy St. Patrick's Day. .

people people people....calm down !!! I kinda agree with Sandee and Maria here. I dont like animals personally and wouldnt welcome them in my kitchen or even house. But if someone else chooses to do so its their wish. As they say each one to their own !! Ms. browneyes, I dont see anyone forcing you do have any animals arnd you ...just ignore it ...

I agree, and to each is own, but I thought comments were there to post your opinions in which I did. Until she created a new member name to attack and insult me by calling me ignorant and racist. Then to try to pass her cat off as a service animal was completely ludicrous. The bottom line is it's dirty and disgusting, and I'm sure many other people would agree, regardless if it's in a private home or not. If she can't grasp that concept, then I feel sorry for her.
Then to call me racist?? I'd still like to know where THAT came from. In my opinion, I think her head might be too close to that oven door, and it may have fried her brain a little. Again, just my opinion. HAPPY COOKING!!! LOL!!

What don't you get about me not being a real person. I am married, with kids and live in New England and hold down a job. I called you a racist because you called me Maria with a implication that I was Hispanic or something. I took offense to that implication. I am Hispanic. The one thing you are right about is to each his own. Why would Maria try to be someone she is not? Just to talk to you?
Bottom line is if you don't like the cat, don't watch the video. You have a right to your opinions, but you DO NOT have the right to try and force them on others or resort to calling people "Freaks" because of theirs. And this is just my opinion. Happy cooking to you too.

FYI-Maria is a very popular Italian name, as well as in many Christian cultures.
Marie is also very popular in many European countries (Scandinavia, Serbia, Germany, France, etc.)-my daughter is Anne-Marie, and two grand daughters have the middle name of Marie. My daughter-in-law is of French and Czechoslavakia (Československo) background and her middle name is Maria. Her grandmother who was Czechoslavakian also was Maria. Oh and of course my own name is Mary-Anne again Mary/Maria/Marie basically the same name. I am of English, French and Welsh background and a green eyed blonde.
Besides in the US names cross over all nationalities!
Now this being said, let's get off this rampage. Maria has a cat and many were offended by it sitting on thecooking area, OK. Let's get over it!!!! If anyone objects to the cat thing-just don't watch the video. Hey we have a wealth of videos and recipes here on iFood.TV of almost any cuisine you desire.
Maria is a great cook and contributor on this forum. It's time to stop being personal and get back into the cyber kitchen where we play nice.

Wow! What a FREAK you are!! Your cat is NOT a service animal, and AGAIN it's GROSS having a cat sitting on prep utensils and prep areas, and if you don't get that, then THAT'S IGNORANCE, and I'm sorry for you :(
Posted on: 13 March 2008 - 4:48pm
Lovetocookalot says :
Wow again - and no - i am not Sandee, though I do respect that she values service animals and has direct knowledge of their assisting capabilities. But, please everyone - this is suppose to be a place to share cooking
ideas and recipes, not to attack one another...there is enough of that everywhere - lets be nice, share and view if you choose and don't if you don't. The wonderful thing about the internet is you really are in charge of what you
watch. Happy cooking everyone - I'll keep my animals, and you do as YOU choose.

Ignorance??? Or smart enough to know that you can create a new membership to leave comments to justify animals sitting on prep utensils and prep areas. Maybe using the word WOW gave it away Sandee (or is it Maria) hmmn it's pretty nasty no matter who you are.
Posted on: 13 March 2008 - 8:58am
Sandee says :
Oh, by the way, I am not Maria!!!!!!!!!! I use the word wow because I can't think of a kind word to describe you or your attitude. Why don't you take the time to actually read about service animals and how the assist the disabled in the kitchen. You sound paranoid too.
Posted on: 13 March 2008 - 2:40pm
Sandee says :
Be careful your ignorance is showing. Are you a racist as well? Maria what is that supposed to mean. Someone should have though about "breeding" you.
Talk about nasty.

This Shepards Pie Recipe would be a great choice for coming Saint Patrick's day celebrations. Really this is wonderful.
Posted on: 12 March 2008 - 3:10pm
Sandee says :
Wow, so much ignorance. Service animals do indeed work in the kitchen with the disabled. Being the daughter of a severely disabled parent that has a service dog, I have first hand knowledge of this. I would rather have that dog in the kitchen than my kids when they come in from outside. Get a grip people.
Also, unless you add cat to the recipe you don't have to worry about it.

When I first saw the cat I thought oh yum a Chinese meat dish.
We get health department reports routinely about health hazards of even a "clean" animal in the kitchen. Cat hair in mashed potatoes-yum.

browneyes says :
Any animal that is supposed to be helping prep in the kitchen should be in the Guinness World Records book or making their début on the Foodnetwork Channel making lots of $$$!
No animal should be that close to food no matter how clean they are. Don't take my word for it, ask any health inspector. Just a thought.

Lovetocookalot says :
Wow - ok first of all there are two distinct points here.
1) Therapy dogs -
these wonderful service animals can and do assist their owners in all aspects of daily life, their role
in the kitchen is usually to aid in a persons maneuvering, and they
are carefully trained to not contaminate food, to never take food
from a counter or knock into pans etc. They are allowed in food prep areas, by law, that are private, such as
in dorms with kitchens and private residences
2)
My cat, is to all of you, only virtual. Enjoy the recipes if you
choose or not - the joys of being a home cook allow me to do things
like enjoy the company of my animals - and also things like bringing
meat and poultry to room temperature (which health services would forbid
but which is the only way to cook it, as most chefs know). When regulating
food safety practices for the masses many assumptions are made in broad
brush strokes - in one's own home adjustments can be made with care
and understanding of the particular circumstances therein...
At anyrate, happy cooking everyone - with or without an animal companion

The cat sitting on the food prep area got me too......wonder if it's been nibling on mice, rats or ???? lately. I have seen people who have cats that crawl into their dish cabinets! ICK! I won't eat at their house.
I am allergic to cats.
We have a dog, but she isn't on the counters or in the kitchen.
But sounds like a great recipe sans the cat.

Lovetocookalot says :
sorry if the animals disturb you, they are not a required part of the recipe. Feel free to leave them out,
however: just to clarify - my cats are indoor only, and eat only homemade
food prepared by me - so they are quite healthy, and quite clean - all my animals, save the hamster, are entitled to roam freely throughout my house, including
my kitchen - in particular I work with training therapy dogs, who often must assist their disabled owners in the kitchen, so its necessary to expose the animals to
cooking. That said, please just note the recipes and ignore the animals if they bother you!
