2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup black sesame seeds, or regular sesame seeds
1 egg
1/2 (3-inch) square Bean Curd
1 to 2 teaspoons milk, if needed
3 cups vegetable oil for deep-frying
Directions
Sift together flour, sugar and salt into a large bowl.
Add sesame seeds; mix well.
Beat egg slightly in a small bowl.
Use a spoon to break up bean curd.
Add to egg; mix well.
Add egg mixture to flour mixture.
Knead to mix well.
Dough should be soft.
If too dry, knead in 1 to 2 teaspoons milk.
Cover with a damp towel and let stand 30 minutes.
Place dough on a floured surface.
Use a rolling pin to roll out dough to a long 1/8-inch thick sheet.
Use a sharp knife to cut dough into 3" X 1-1/2" strips.
Make three 1-1/2-inch slits lengthwise in the middle of each strip.
To make a bow, pull one end through the middle slit.
Heat 3 cups oil in a wok over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
Reduce heat to low and carefully lower several bows into hot oil with a slotted metal spoon.
Fry several at a time 3 minutes.
Increase heat to high and fry 1 minute longer until golden brown.
Remove with slotted spoon, drain and cool on paper towels.
