1 Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
2 For the sauce, in a pot, add 2 cups of water along with 2 cups of sugar.
3 Put on stove set to medium heat and stir until all the sugar is dissolved and water comes to a boil.
4 Pour the sauce into a flat pan.
5 For the cookies, in a bowl add the melted butter.
6 Stirring constantly add ½ cup of sugar.
7 Gradually add 2 lightly beaten eggs stirring constantly.
8 Add in a pinch of salt.
9 Slowly fold in 2 cups of sifted white flour.
10 Add in 1 teaspoon of European vanilla and 5 teaspoons of baking powder, mix well.
11 Add more flour as necessary until the mixture becomes dough-like and no longer sticks to hands.
12 Kneed the dough well.
13 Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls and place on a baking sheet.
14 Bake at 325 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
15 Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
16 Once the cookies have cooled, submerge them in the syrup so they soak in the syrup.
17 Remove them from the syrup and arrange on a serving dish.
18 Serve at once.
