Seafood Gumbo With Okra Recipe
Ingredients
| Butter | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Bacon slices | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), diced | |
| Green onion | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
| Garlic | 1 Clove (5gm), mashed | |
| Flour | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Okra | 1 Can (10oz) | |
| Tomatoes | 1 Can (10oz) | |
| 1 cup diced ham, cut in 1/4 -inch cubes | ||
| 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh thyme or 1/2 teaspoon powdered thyme | ||
| Bay leaves | 2 | |
| Boiling water | 7 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Raw shrimp | 1 pound | |
| Crab meat | 3/4 pound, flaked | |
| Rice | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), uncooked | |
Directions
Melt butter in a large, heavy kettle.
Add bacon, green onion, and garlic, and saute until onion is limp and clear.
Sprinkle in flour and stir until blended.
Add okra, tomatoes, ham, thyme, and bay leaves; pour in boiling water.
Stirring often, simmer for 45 minutes.
Add shrimp and crab to broth and continue cooking 15 minutes.
Cook rice by your preferred method.
