Microwave at high setting 5 minutes.
Microwave 9 minutes more, or until mixture reaches 260° (hard ball stage).
Beat egg whites with vanilla in bowl until soft peaks form, using electric mixer at high speed.
Slowly pour hot syrup over egg whites, beating until mixture holds its shape and begins to lose its gloss.
(Mixture will be stiff.) Fold in walnuts.
Working quickly, drop mixture by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper-lined baking sheets.
