Schnitz Un Gnepp Recipe
Schnitz Un Gnepp is a ham and apples recipe. Oven cooked, the ham is flavored with apples and has brown sugar added for taste. Served with dumplings, it makes a great and filling meal.
Ingredients
2 1/2 to 3 pound smoked ham with bone
2 cups dried apples
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Directions
Cover ham almost completely with cold water.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer gently for 2 hours.
Meanwhile, put dried apples in a bowl and cover with cold water to soak.
When ham has been cooked 2 hours, add drained apples and brown sugar.
Simmer 1 hour, then lift ham onto a large platter and spoon apples around it.
Reserve ham broth.
