Savory Cheese Apple And Walnut Bread Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups sifted self-rising flour or 2 cupsall-purpose flour sifted with 2 teaspoons baking powder
Salt and pepper
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 cooking apple, peeled, cored and finely chopped
1 cup grated strong Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
1 egg
2/3 cup milk
Directions
Sift the flour, salt and pepper into a bowl and rub in the butter or margarine until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Add the prepared apple, cheese and walnuts.
Beat the egg and milk together and stir into the flour mixture to give a stiff batter.
Spoon the batter into a greased small 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 1 1/2-inch loaf pan or cake pan.
Bake the savory bread above the center of a moder-iately hot'oven (375°F)for 40-50 minutes until well risen and qolden brown.
