Recipe Story

ever wondered what's inside the philippine's "lumpiang munggo" or vegetable spring roll in english?, "lumpia basah" in indonesia? or "lunpia" in hokien chinese dialect? with all the countries mentioned above there is just one common denominator to this famous vegetable spring roll and that is the mung bean sprout! try this unique side dish of 3 nations as we exclude the wrapper of the famous spring roll to see, learn, re-invent and taste this new exciting dish cooked and served the other way around! another first by 2pr that is served right here exclusively on ifood.tv!

Ingredients

 
- 200 grams fresh "snow peas,"/chinese peas still in pod (washed and halved)
 
- 200 grams fresh french beans still in pod (or baguio beans in the philippines)
 
- 500 grams mung bean sprout
 
- 1 medium carrots (diagonally & thinly sliced)
 
- 1 piece onion (thinly sliced)
 
- ground black peppercorn (to taste)
 
- half cup water
 
- 40-50 ml of soy sauce
 
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
 
- 1 teaspoon sugar
 
- oil for frying and saute
 
- (optional: 1 piece or 250 grams chicken breast previously boiled and shredded into pieces) or pork cut into small thin slices around 300 grams.

Directions

in a wok or sauce pan heat oil. saute onion until transluscent. add the meat (chicken or pork)-optional!, stir fry until light brown. add carrots, french beans, snow peas or chinese peas. stir fry for few seconds.
add the soy sauce and stir. immediately add the water, sesame oil, ground peppercorn and sugar. stir and finally add the mung bean sprout. mix and stir until the sauce is all over the ingredients. cover and wait for it to simmer.
once it simmers,turn off heat and mix once more and serve immediately.

i was thinking of doing something special that day after my boss send a message saying "there's no work today" and i should take a rest. so what i did, stayed at the kitchen and look for something to cook in a different manner. and this was the product! as a matter of fact, i really want to eat this again, it really taste good! ^_^
