4 medium-sized apples
 
16 whole cloves
 
1/4 cup each granulated sugar and brown sugar, firmly packed
 
1 cup water
 
1/4 teaspoon each cinnamon and nutmeg
 
1 can (1 lb. 13 oz.) hominy, drained
 
16 to 20 (1 to 1 1/2 lbs.) pork link sausages

Directions

Slice ends off apples and cut in half crossways.
Core and stick 2 whole cloves in each half.
Place in 9-inch-square baking pan.
Combine the sugars, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Bring to a boil, stir 3 minutes until sugar is dissolved, and pour over apples.
Place in a 400° oven 15 minutes before putting in the sausages and hominy.
Place hominy in a 9-inch-square pan.
Set a wire cake rack over the pan and lay the sausages on the rack.
Place in oven.
Turn apples over in syrup.
Reduce oven to 350° and bake 1 hour, or until sausages are brown. (Sausages and apples should be turned about every 15 minutes.) Drain hominy well.
Mound in center of a platter, top with sausages, and ring with apples.
