 1 pound bulk sausage
 Apple1 Cup (16 tbs), shredded
 1/3 cup fine dry bread crumbs
 Onion1/4 Cup (16 tbs), finley chopped
 1 egg, slightly beaten
 Generous dash pepper
 Beef broth2 Can (10oz), condensed
 Water1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Carrots1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), sliced
 Mace1/8 Teaspoon
 1 cup raw regular rice
 3 apple slices (1/2-inch thick), cut in half

Directions

Combine sausage, apple, crumbs, onion, egg, and pepper; mix thoroughly.
Shape into 16 meatballs.
In oven-proof skillet, brown meatballs; pour off fat.
Stir in broth, water, carrots, and mace.
Bring to boil; stir in rice.
Cover; bake at 450°F. for 15 minutes.
Stir; arrange apple pieces between meatballs.
Cover; bake 10 minutes more or until rice is tender.
Stir.
