Sauerbraten Recipe
Ingredients
2 to 2 1/2 lbs. beef round steak, 1 inch thick
1 1/2 cups hot tap water
1/2 cup dry red wine
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1/2 cup thinly sliced onion
1/4 cup raisins
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup crushed gingersnaps
2 to 3 tablespoons brown sugar
Directions
Cut meat into serving size pieces.
Place in a 3 qt.glass casserole dish.
Add remaining ingredients except ginger-snaps and brown sugar.
Cover and microwave 8 to 10 minutes or until liquid comes to a boil.
Stir.
Cover and microwave on DEFROST for 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes [SIMMER-4, 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours] Rearrange pieces of meat once during cooking.
Stir in gingersnaps and brown sugar.
Microwave 2 to 3 minutes.
Place in a 3 qt.glass casserole dish.
