Sauerbraten Stew Recipe
Ingredients
| 2 pounds boneless pork, trimmed and cut into 1-1/2-inch cubes | ||
| Cooking oil | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Water | 1/2 Quart | |
| Ketchup | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Onion | 1 Large, chopped | |
| Potatoes | 2 Medium, peeled | |
| 3 medium carrots, cut into 1/2-inch slices | ||
| Green beans | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Shredded cabbage | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 2 celery ribs, cut into 1/2-inch slices | ||
| Ground allspice | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Pepper | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| 1 cup crushed gingersnaps | ||
Directions
In a Dutch oven or soup kettle, brown pork in oil.
Add the next 10 ingredients.
Cover and simmer for 1-1/2 hours.
Stir in gingersnap crumbs; simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes or until stew is thickened and pork is tender.
