Ingredients

 Sugar1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Cold water1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 1 lime, sliced paper-thin
 1 orange, sliced paper-thin
 1 lemon, sliced paper-thin
1 bottle dry, full bodied red wine
 Ice cubes

Directions

Combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan and heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved and syrup is simmering.
Remove from heat and add lime, orange and lemon.
Let fruit and syrup stand at room temperature several hours, stirring often.
Pour fruit and syrup into a large pitcher.
Add 1 tray of ice cubes and pour in wine.
Stir to blend and serve cold as punch or as a beverage with a summer meal.
Note: If you prefer a milder wine taste, you can add about half as much soda water as wine to the punch just before serving.
This punch is a sweet version of a classic Spanish punch.
To make it as most Spaniards do, the bottle of wine should be combined with the juice of 1 lemon, a sliced lemon and cold water or soda water to taste.
