Sand Tarts Recipe
Ingredients
| 1/2 cup soft butter or margarine | ||
| 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar | ||
| Eggs | 2 Small, separated | |
| Milk | 1 Tablespoon | |
| Vanilla extract | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Baking powder | 1 Teaspoon | |
| All purpose flour | 1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 15 unblanched almonds, split | ||
| Ground cinnamon | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Directions
Cream butter and 1 cup sugar.
Add egg yolks, milk, and flavoring and beat until light.
Add sifted dry ingredients and mix well.
Chill for at least 3 hours.
Roll out dough very thin and cut with 3-inch star or other cookie cutter.
Put on greased cookie sheets; put a split almond on each cookie.
Brush with unbeaten egg whites; sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar and the cinnamon.
Bake in preheated moderate oven (375°F.) for about 8 minutes.
