Sambar Recipe

Sambmar is very common south indian dish. The drumsticks and peppercorns gives the Sambmar a divine taste. Must catch it.

Ingredients

 Arhar1/2 Cup (16 tbs), washed
 Turmeric powder1/2 Teaspoon
 Water3 Cup (16 tbs)
 CUT INTO 11 /2 CUBES
 Brinjal1
 Potato1
 Onion1
 1 drumstick cut in 1" pieces
 Peppercorns6
 Salt To Taste
 Oil1 Tablespoon
 Fenugreek seeds1 Teaspoon
 1/2 tsp cummin seeds
 Mustard seeds1 Teaspoon
 Red chillies2 , broken
 A few curry leaves
 Coriander powder1/2 Teaspoon
 1 or 2 twigs of fresh coriander leaves
 1 tomato cut in 8 pieces
 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
 Water1 Cup (16 tbs)

Directions

Microwave in a deep bowl dal, turmeric powder and two cups of water at medium 50% power for 40 minutes.
Let it stand for 5 minutes.
Stir in cubed vegetables, drumstick and peppercorns, and microwave covered for 15 minutes at medium 50% power.
Mix in salt.
In a skillet heat oil over the stove, add fenugreek, cummin and mustard seeds.
When they splutter, add red chillies, curry leaves and coriander powder and pour into the dal (sambhar) mixture.
Microwave at medium 50% power for 5 minutes stirring in between.
Add coriander leaves and let it stand for 3 minutes.
Stir in the rest of the ingredients, tomato, tamarind pulp and one cup water and microwave for 3 minutes.
Vadas, Uttapam, Dosas or even just boiled rice with pickle.
