Sabrett's Onion Sauce Recipe Video

I wanted to use a different hot dog sauce, we can't get Sabrett's onion sauce here in Texas so I thought I'd see if I can find a good recipe online. I found a couple that sounded good so I took some of their ideas and tweaked them.

 Olive oil1 Tablespoon
 Sweet onion4 Cup (64 tbs), chopped
 Water3 Cup (48 tbs)
 Corn starch1 Tablespoon, dissolved in cold water
 Packed brown sugar1 Tablespoon
 Tomato paste2 Tablespoon
 Kosher salt1 Teaspoon
 Crushed red pepper1⁄4 Teaspoon (Or more if you like)
 White vinegar1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)

Directions

MAKING:
1)Heat oil in saucepan over medium heat and add the onions, saute for about 5 minutes until onions are tender but not caramelized.
2)Add the brown sugar, tomato paste, salt and red pepper.
3)Stir and cook for a few minutes to cook off the raw taste of the tomato paste.
4)Add the water and vinegar and simmer for 1 hour. Add the cornstarch while stirring.
5)Increase the heat and bring to a boil till thickened.

SERVING:
6)Spoon onion sauce over hot dog with spicy brown mustard and serve and enjoy!
