Ingredients

 
1 cup granulated sugar
 
1/2 cup light brown sugar {packed)
 
1/4 cup light corn syrup
 
1 teaspoon cider vinegar
 
1/3 cup water
 
1/8 teaspoon salt pinch baking soda
 
2 tablespoons butter
 
3/4 cup combined broken walnuts and almond halves

Directions

Combine the sugars, corn syrup, vinegar, and water in a heavy 2-quart saucepan.
Cook over low heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
Continue to cook, without stirring, to 300°, or the hard-crack stage.
Remove from the heat.
Add the salt, baking soda, butter, and nuts.
Stir only enough to mix.
Turn out onto a buttered cookie sheet (do not scrape the pan).
Spread thinly with a buttered spatula.
Loosen the candy while still warm.
Break into irregular pieces.
