Rolled Oats Bread Recipe
The rolled oats bread is a healthy bread recipe prepared with rolled oats and flour. Baked with a batter of rolled oats, flour, molasses and leavened with yeast, the rolled oats bread can be served with meals.
Ingredients
2 cups rolled oats
2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup molasses
1 tbs. shortening
2 cups boiling water
1 cake fresh yeast or 1 envelope dry yeast
1/4 cup lukewarm water
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (approx.)
Directions
Mix oats, salt, molasses and shortening and add boiling water.
Cool to lukewarm.
Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and add to first mixture.
Gradually add flour, mixing to a smooth dough.
Knead on lightly floured board until smooth and shiny.
Shape into a ball and place in a large greased bowl.
Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk.
Knead and divide in half.
Shape each half into ball.
Cover and let stand 10 minutes.
Mold each half into a loaf and place in greased loaf pans.
Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk.
Bake at 375F for 50-60 minutes.
Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.
