Flour- 2 cups, sifted
 
Salt- 1/2 teaspoon
 
Baking soda- 1/2 teaspoon
 
Baking powder- 2 teaspoons
 
Cinnamon- 1 teaspoon
 
Cloves- 1/2 teaspoon
 
Shortening- 1 cup
 
Brown sugar- 1 1/2 cups
 
Eggs- 2, beaten
 
Sour milk- 2/3 cup
 
Rolled oats- 1 1/2 cups
 
Raisins or chopped dates- 1 cup
 
Nuts- 1 cup, chopped

Directions

GETTING READY
1.Start by preheating the oven to 350F degrees
MAKING
2.In a bowl, sift flour, salt, soda, baking powder and spices together.
3.Cream shortening with brown sugar until fluffy.
4.Add beaten eggs and mix well.
5.Add sifted ingredients alternately with sour milk in small amounts.
6.Add rolled oats, raisins and nuts.
7.Drop from teaspoon onto greased baking sheet
8.Bake in moderate oven until browned.
SERVING
9.Serve with milk, tea, or coffee
