Ingredients

 
1/2 cup butter or margarine
 
1/4 cup sugar
 
1/4 teaspoon salt
 
1 unbeaten egg
 
1 1/2 cups sifted enriched flour

Directions

Stir butter to soften; blend in sugar and salt.
Add egg and mix well.
Stir in flour.
Chill slightly.
On floured surface, roll out in 12 inch circle, 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick.
Using rolling pin to transfer dough, carefully place over outside of 9x1 1/2 inch round cake pan. (Shape dough to sides of pan almost to rim. Be sure there are no thin places in crust, especially where sides and bottom of pan join.)
Trim off excess crust.
Place pan, with crust up, on cooky sheet.
Bake in very hot oven (450°) 8 to 10 minutes or till crust is lightly browned.
Cool a few minutes; while slightly warm, transfer crust to serving plate.
Note: If you prefer, bake a regular 10 inch pie shell
