2 cups sifted flour
4 teaspoons Calumet Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk
Directions
Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar, and sugar together.
Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add milk and stir with fork until soft dough is formed.
Turn out on lightiy floured board and pat or roll lightly 1/2 inch thick.
Cut with floured 2-inch biscuit cutter.
Bake on ungreased baking sheet in hot oven (450°F.) 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown
