1 1/2 pounds beef
 
Water to cover meat
 
1 tablespoon oil
 
1 clove garlic
 
4 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
 
1 tablespoon sugar
 
1 tablespoon wine
 
2 slices ginger the size of a penny

Directions

Cut the beef into cubes 1 X 1 inch and simmer in a wok with enough water to barely cover for 15 minutes.
Drain beef and brown it at medium temperature, using 1 tablespoon oil and 1 clove of garlic.
Add soy sauce, sugar, wine, and ginger.
Add the drained juice; simmer at low heat until tender.
During the stewing process you may add potatoes, turnips, Brussels sprouts, or carrots.
