Red Simmered Pork Cubes Recipe
Ingredients
| Ginger root | 1 Tablespoon, grated | |
| Sugar | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Garlic | 2 Clove (5gm), minced | |
| Cooking oil | 2 Tablespoon | |
| 1 pound boneless pork, cut into 3/4-inch pieces | ||
| Onion | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
| Water | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Soy sauce | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Dry sherry | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| 1 star anise or 1/2 teaspoon aniseed | ||
| Sliced mushrooms | 1 Cup (16 tbs), thinly sliced | |
| Bamboo shoots | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), thinly sliced | |
Directions
In skillet cook gingerroot, sugar, and garlic in hot oil for 30 seconds or till sugar and garlic turn light brown.
Add pork and onion; cook and stir till pork is browned on all sides.
Combine water, soy sauce, dry sherry, salt, and star anise or aniseed.
Pour mixture into skillet.
Simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.
Stir in the sliced mushrooms and bamboo shoots.
Simmer mixture, covered, about 15 minutes more
Add pork and onion; cook and stir till pork is browned on all sides.
