Red Lentil Dal Recipe
Ingredients
| Butter | 3 Tablespoon | |
| Cumin powder | 2 Teaspoon | |
| Cayenne | 1/8 Teaspoon | |
| Ginger | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Coriander | 1 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Mustard seeds | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Curry powder | 2 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Water | 8 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Red lentils | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 1/4 cup + 2 Tbs. lemon juice | ||
| Honey | 2 Teaspoon | |
Directions
MAKING
1. In a large heavy bottomed saucepan or a stock pot, cover the lentils with water.
2. Place the saucepan on a medium flame and bring the water to a boil
3. Reduce the heat and simmer the lentils for 30 minutes or until they are tender.
4. When cooked take pan off the heat and keep aside till you are ready to serve.
FINALIZING
5. In a small skillet, melt the butter over a low flame.
6. Add the mustard seeds and wait for them to splutter.
7. Then add all the spices and seasoning.
8. Pour this mixture into the cooked lentils and stir.
9. Place the saucepan of lentils on a medium flame and bring to a boil.
10. Stir in the lemon juice and honey.
11. Simmer the lentils for 5 minutes so flavors of the spices blend in.
SERVING
12. Ladle the lentil dahl into a large tureen.
13. You can garnish this with coriander if you like.
14. Serve hot with Indian bread or with rice.
