Tomato Rasam Recipe

Rasam is a tamarind and tomato flavored soup like preparation that is a speacialty of south india. This rasam recipe can be cooked in the microwave with garlic, mustard, curry leaves, peppercorns and cumin for flavor and taste. served hot with popadoms, rasams are flavorful and light.

Ingredients

 Tamarind50 Gram
 Water250 Milliliter
 125 gsm tomatoes (chopped)
 4-5 flakes garliclroughly chopped)
 Mustard seeds1/4 Teaspoon
 Peppercorns15 To taste
 Salt To Taste
 Cumin seeds1 Teaspoon
 Oil1 Tablespoon
 Curry leaves8
 Water500 Milliliter
 Rasam powder1.5 Teaspoon

Directions

Boil the tamarind in 250 ml (lcup)water in a 1/2 litre shallow dish on 100% power for 5:00 minutes.
Cool, strain & retain the extract.
Return the tamarind extract to a 1 litre medium casserole.
Add tomatoes, salt, garlic, peppercorns and cumin seeds and micro wave on 100% power for 5:00 minutes.
Strain and keep aside.
Heat oil in a 1.5 litre deep casseroie on 100% power for 1:00 minute.
Chillies and curry leaves and microwave on 100% power for 1:00 minute.
Add the strained tamarind extract, 500 ml water, Rasam powder and a little salt if required.
Mix and microwave on 100% power for 7:00 minutes.
Stir well before serving.
Serve hot with papadams.
