Ingredients
2 c. raisins
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. soda
1 c. chopped black walnuts
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 to 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp. shortening
4 c. sifted flour
Directions
Mix raisins, 2 1/2 cups hot water and soda; let stand overnight.
Beat eggs slightly; add sugar and short- ening.
Mix well.
Drain raisins; reserve liquid.
Sift flour and salt; add to egg mixture alternately with reserved raisin liquid.
Add raisins, walnuts and va- nilla.
Place in 5 greased 1-pound coffee cans.
Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.
