Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
2 teaspoons salt
2/3 cup shortening
2 cups raisins
1 teaspoon finely shredded orange peel
2 beaten eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Directions
Thoroughly stir together the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Cut in shortening till mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in raisins and peel.
Combine eggs and milk; add all at once to dry mixture.
Stir quickly just till dough clings together.
Drop from teaspoon into greased 1 3/4 inch muffin pans, filling pans 2/3 full.
Bake at 400° for 15 to 20 minutes.
While biscuits are warm, dip tops in melted butter or margarine, then in a mixture of 3 tablespoons sugar, the cinnamon, and the nutmeg.
