Raised Whole Wheat Waffles Recipe

Ingredients

 
1/2 cup lukewarm water
 
3 tablespoons dry active yeast
 
2 cups lukewarm milk
 
1/4 cup melted butter or vegetable oil
 
1/8 teaspoon salt
 
1 teaspoon brown sugar
 
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
 
2 eggs, lightly beaten

Directions

1. Put the water and yeast in a large mixing bowl and stir to dissolve the yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes in a warm place. 2. Add the milk, butter, salt, and sugar.
3. Beat in the flour and the eggs but do not overheat (batter will be thin). Set the mixture in a warm place until mixture just begins to rise, about 15 minutes.
4. Cook the mixture in a preheated, oiled waffle iron.
