40 clams
 
20 to 24 medium-size oysters
 
1/2 cup ( 1/4 lb.) butter or margarine, melted
 
1 large hard-shell crab cooked and cracked

Directions

Scrub clams and oysters in fresh water and arrange in a bowl.
Place melted butter in a heat-resistant pan on outer edge of grill to keep warm.
Barbecue a few clams and oysters at a time, if you wish.
Set any number of clams and oysters on the grill 4 to 6 inches above a solid bed of glowing coals.
After about 3 minutes or when clams and oysters begin to open, turn them over and continue to cook until they pop wide open (about 3 to 4 more minutes).
Protecting fingers with a napkin, hold clams and oysters over butter pan to drain juices into butter.
Pluck out meat with fork, dip in butter, and eat.
