Directions

In small saucepan, over medium heat, heat butter.
Add onion, and saute until golden—about 5 minutes.
Stir in flour; cook, stirring, until flour begins to brown.
Gradually add beef broth and 2 tablespoons tomato paste, stirring until smooth.
Bring to boiling, stirring; simmer over medium heat until sauce thickens and is reduced to 1 cup—about 20 minutes.
Add pepper to taste.
